He quickly moves past grasses tall
On springy claw-toed feet
Then stops and stares with beady eyes
A spy for helpless meat
His chest is tinted ruby rust
As stained from gory meals
A highly practiced predator
He spots his prey, then wheels
He springs in one unnerving thrust
With maw that grasps his prey
And holding high this squirming prize
The robin flies away
